Drop-In Centers

What is a drop-in center?

A drop-in center is a social rehabilitation program for mental health individuals. It is meant to complement, not to replace more traditional mental health services. Its goals include socialization, leisure, education, empathy, and empowerment all at a pace that the individual chooses.

It helps in the process of recovery from mental illness. It reduces feelings of loneliness, sadness, hopelessness, depression, and thoughts of suicide. It lowers the frequency of psychiatric hospitalizations.

Ultimately, it empowers individuals in their treatment and their lives helping them to live up to their potential in their community.

NORCO has two drop-in centers: one located in Shamokin, and the other in Sunbury. Individuals who want to attend must meet the following qualifications:

‣ Be at least 18 years of age
‣ Have a severe and persistent mental illness
‣ Live within Northumberland County
